Breanne and Josh | Corvallis Engagement Photos

One of the favorite things I love about my job is being able to work with couples to create sessions and photos that reflect them and their style. In the past two weeks I have shot 3 engagement sessions and each one of them was a very different location and style, ranging from formal to very casual. I love seeing couples personalities reflected in poses and locations. For Breanne and Josh we started and Bald Hill in Corvallis and then headed to Oregon State University to take advantage of some of the great architecture there. Breanne and Josh were so much fun to work with and their smiles are infectious!

Jessica and Garrett | Salem Engagement Photos

I got to spend a fun afternoon with Jessica and Garrett on Saturday. We started out at Mission Mill Museum and then headed down to the Salem Waterfront Park to catch some fun sunset shots. Jessica has been my second shooter at a couple weddings so it is a complete honor to get to capture her engagement photos and then her wedding in July!

Congrats Jessica and Garrett! I can't wait to celebrate with you both this summer!

Ethan and Corina | Portland Engagement Photography

This was an extra special session because Ethan is my little brother. The weather report kept going back and forth on whether or not it was going to rain...it rained. Pretty much the entire time. But Ethan and Corina braved the wind and rain and trekked around down town Portland with me finding fun places to shoot. Once I got over being forced to not only watch, but take photos of (and then later edit), my baby brother kissing a girl - we had a ton of fun! You may see Corina and Ethan pop up again on the blog in a few weeks (months?) when the sun comes out and we're able to get some shots in drier weather.

I'm so excited to have Corina in the family, really I couldn't have picked a better girl for Ethan and I'm glad I can call her my friend.
Congratulations you two!

Deborah and Luke 1-7-12 | Mission Mill Weddings

My wedding season started off early this year with Deborah and Luke's wedding at the Mission Mill Museum in Salem this past Saturday. It was my first time shooting at Mission Mill, but I sure hope I get to go back soon, the lighting was gorgeous and the grounds offer so many beautiful places to shoot both inside and out. Deborah and Luke had so many amazing flowers and decorations that they made themselves with their families help. I'm constantly amazed by my bride's incredible DIY and crafty abilities!

Grace | Albany, Oregon Toddler Portraits

When Grace's mom first contacted me about doing portraits of Grace for Christmas/to document her second birthday, she mentioned that Grace is a "very active toddler." I wrote that off thinking 'Yeah yeah, 'active toddler' - that's a redundant statement. Typically I can run the toddler until they are tired while getting action shots and then they are ready to sit and pose a little- Not Grace! Grace is the energizer bunny of toddlers. Despite freezing temperatures, we had a good time and were able to get quite a few great shots of Grace doing what she does best- running around! Grace loves balloons and her parents brought a bouquet of balloons that made for some really fun shots.

Karessah | Albany Oregon Senior Photos

I'm officially convinced; the class of 2012 is the most gorgeous class ever! (class of 2013; feel free to prove me wrong...)

Karessah braved the rain this past weekend and even after an hour of shooting in constant rain, her hair and make up were still perfect! Can you believe it? the girl should be a super model.

I hate to cancel sessions just because its raining, because for starters, it's Oregon, there's a good chance it's going to be raining, but also - the light can be beautiful and you won't see the rain in your photos (unless of course I want to shoot in a way that shows the rain, which can be fun too!) The nasty weather actually made for some super cute back alley shots with an umbrella. All that to say, if you book a session and wake up to rain, don't be disheartened, we can still make it work if you want to.

Thanks for braving the wind and rain with me Karessah, I had a great time doing your senior session. Hope the rest of your senior year is wonderful!

Mervin and Heather | Albany Oregon Wedding Photography

Merv and Heather tied the knot on Sunday in a beautiful ceremony at Albany Mennonite Church
followed by a rocking reception at Cappies Brewhouse in downtown Albany. Merv and Heather's wedding was an absolute privilege to shoot. I love my job because I get to spend lots of time with couples who are happy and in love, you could actually see joy radiating from Merv and Heather on their wedding day and I'm so blessed that I got to capture that!

Although Sunday was a bit dreary, windy and rainy, the entire wedding party toughed it out and we got some fun outdoor shots. Thanks to the groomsmen for making a last minute run to the store for umbrellas!

Sarah, Shawn and Grayson | Keizer Oregon Engagement and Family Photography

This has been a busy weekend for me, two weddings and a few sessions that I was trying to squeeze in before the rain started. Sarah and Shawn's shoot was squeezed in for a whole different reason; on Sunday Shawn will be leaving for Afghanistan for 13 months. Leaving behind his fiance' Sarah and 11 month old son Grayson. Sarah and Shawn wanted to get some family photos and engagement photos before his deployment. Sarah wanted to make sure she had some photos of Shawn and Grayson together so that she has something to point to and show Grayson his dad. Grayson was the happiest baby I think I've ever seen, he's grinning or laughing in every shot.
You guys were an absolute joy to shoot, thank you so much for sharing this emotional and beautiful time in your lives with me. My prayers are with all of you during the next year.

Usually when I start editing a session there are a select few that jump out to me as favorites,I honestly don't think I could pick a favorite from this session! Dennis and Kalei | Lebanon Oregon Wedding Photography

Dennis and Kalei have been married 20 years, and decided to renew their vows for their 20th anniversary!
Kalei is from Hawaii and many of her family members flew in for the ceremony, bringing with them amazing food, homemade ukeleles and beautiful and incredibly fragrant leis! They brought a piece of Hawaiian culture to Lebanon, Oregon! I can't even begin to describe the food, there was so much and the flavor was incredible, I only had a time for a few bites- but I'm crashing the next wedding this family has so I can get some more of that teriyaki beef and baked salmon!

You may remember The Dukes from their shoot last year. Can you believe how much Gibson has grown- He's grown some adorable hair too!
Last November we did a very "fall" style photo shoot and Katie wanted this years to have a more "summery" feel. It wouldn't be summer in the Willamette Valley with out corn and hay fields, and we even found some sun flowers for good measure.

Lindsay and Chris got married last week at Chatoe Rogue Hop Farm. Chatoe Rogue is a photographers paradise! I could have shot there all day long. This was a wedding I had the pleasure of shooting for Winddancer Wedding Photography, and I'm so glad I got to shoot this wedding because I've always wanted to go see Rogue's hop farm in Independence and I finally got my chance. Lindsay and Chris had a lovely wedding and we were able to sneak away for a bit to take some photos in between the rows of hops. Dev, Erin and Izzy | Albany Family Photography

When Dev and Erin asked me to a take some photos of them and their dog, I mostly only agreed because Izzy is so dang cute. =)
I mentioned in my last blog post that I have a soft spot for dogs, but I totally swoon when I see a dachshund. So doing Dev and Erin's photos was super fun for me.

We started off at their house to get some relaxed backyard shots and then headed to the park and shot photos until poor Izzy was so tuckered out that she had to go home and take a nap.

Crystal and Frank | Ashland Wedding Photography

Crystal and Frank got married last weekend in a beautiful and intimate ceremony at Callahan Lodge. Unfortunately, the officiant had a medical emergency and was unable to complete the entire ceremony so Franks mom stepped in and finished. The ceremony, led by Frank's mom, ended up being one of the most touching and meaningful ceremonies that I've been a part of. Their dog Sugar was an amazing ring bearer and totally stole the show (at least for me, I'm a total dog lover!)

Crystal and Frank | Medford Engagement Photography

Frank and Crystal came all the way from Texas to do an engagement shoot with me! Okay...so maybe I wasn't the entire reason they came =) But they did come all the way from Texas. They actually are having an Oregon destination wedding in Ashland this coming Saturday. Frank and Crystal wanted to do an engagement shoot while they were here so we managed to squeeze one in this week. We met up at a beautiful park in Medford. I have never shot in Medford before so it was fun to try out a new location and we got some great shots.

Frank and Crystal decided to do some foam cored posters to display at their wedding- in fact they did a 20x30 of this first photo and it turned out amazing. I can't wait for them to see it on Saturday! Further down you will see a close up photo of the two of them holding hands, they chose to have this photo also enlarged and foam cored, but we left a large white boarder around the print so that their guests and sign it! How cool is that?

Laura and Aaron | Vancouver Wedding Photography

Does Laura look familiar? She should, You just saw her as a bridesmaid in Becca and Mike's Wedding. Now it was Becca's turn to be Laura's bridesmaid!
Laura and Aaron had a beautiful classy wedding at the Marshal House at Fort Vancouver.

Laura was drop dead gorgeous in her wedding dress!

I loved catching the girls checking out the ring and laughing together right after the ceremony, what a fun wedding party to work with!

Laura and Aaron had Paparazzi Tonight come set up a photo booth for their guests to use. The guests got the keep a set of photos and then Paparazzi used the duplicate to create a fun guest book for Laura and Aaron with memories from their day. The guests loved getting dressed up in different props and shooting pictures with their friends!

Of course the day wouldn't have been complete with out using Aaron's brother's sword for the cake cutting!

Provenance Farm | Oregon Farm Photography

My sister Rachel and her husband Keith run Provenance Farm in Philomath where they raise pasture raised beef, chickens, lamb and even yummy thanksgiving turkey! They also sell cage-free eggs, which always makes me giggle a little when I say that because I think of a herd (flock?) of eggs roaming around a pasture until they are ready to be eaten....am I the only one?
Rachel and Keith wanted to get some photos of their animals and pasture for their website and being a farm girl at heart I was happy to oblige. Aren't these happy looking animals? If you're interested in buying some happy pasture raised beef, I know they still have some unsold portions available. This is Emmie, because no farm would be complete with out a dog for chicken herding. She knows how to cool off on a hot day!

Talitha and I worked together during college - I think I can speak for her when I say we were each other's saving grace at one of those "character building" jobs =) Since college we've gone our separate ways and unfortunately it's been a super long time since I've seen Joel and Talitha. One Hot Mama! | Albany Maternity Photography

Hailey is due in less than 4 weeks and it was an absolute blast to take maternity photos for one of my oldest friends! I thought some of my recent seniors were adventurous when it came to climbing on things, blazing trails through black berries and dipping their toes in the water...but they have nothing on Hailey! This girl was balancing on logs above the river, waded out in the water to the point that she was practically swimming and suffering under the blazing hot sun all while looking like a perfect model. She's one adventurous lady and will be an amazing mom. Hailey, I'm am so excited for you guys! can't wait to meet little Natalie.

Amanda 2012 | Albany Oregon Senior Photographer

Beautiful Amanda is my senior rep for West Albany High School. We had a lot of fun wandering around Albany and finding some fun places to shoot. Amanda was a trooper, she waded in the freezing cold Willamette River, walked barefoot in a back alley (don't tell her mother!), did some rock climbing and fought off blackberry bushes- all to get the perfect shot. Thanks for hanging in there with me Amanda- I think it paid off!

Linda and Ira are an incredibly loving and compassionate couple who have dedicated their lives to helping brain injured individuals lead productive and fulfilling lives. Along with their children, they run a few homes in the Portland area where they live with, and work with these individuals. With that said, you can imagine how hard it was to get everyone's schedules worked out where they all had a few hours to go take family photos. Linda commented to me that it's the first time in ages that they have had their entire family in one place at that same time. She also mentioned to me that the last time she had professional family photos taken, her kids were around age 4! So obviously I was incredibly honored and excited to take photos for such an amazing family.

Linda, Ira, Billy, Tracy, Tara, John, Charles & Judy; thank you all for spending the afternoon with me- You guys are a beautiful family and a blessing to be around, enjoy your sneak peak!

I usually try to avoid putting two very similar photos on the blog. Merv and Heather | Oregon Engagement Photography

I have known Merv since pretty much the beginning of time. - Okay so not really since the beginning of time, but a pretty long time. We were counselors together at Drift Creek Camp for a few years. I finally got to meet his fiance Heather this past Saturday on their engagement shoot and was blown away by what a great couple they make- total naturals in front of the camera too! I had a great time yesterday with Katlyn my 2012 senior rep from Jefferson High School. We spent a few hours in down town Albany getting some of her spring shots.

Three Years Ago....

.... I made a pretty dang good decision to marry my best friend.
I'm glad I did, because life with Andrew is very enjoyable.

I thought you guys might like to see some of the shots from my wedding and the post wedding trash the dress session - which by the way, was a ton of fun to participate in.

New Lens

In anticipation of a few upcoming senior and engagement sessions, I picked up a new lens a few days ago. It's a 50mm 1.8 for those of you that are interested. I have yet to use it for a 'real' shoot, but I did find some willing subjects in my nephews and dogs. Spring is slowly creeping up on us and its a great time to do some wonderful family shots with all the bright green grass, cherry blossoms and flowers that are starting to bloom!

My spring schedule is filling up fast with family and wedding sessions, so contact me soon to get something on the books.

Fun shoot on the Willamette River

I recently made the time to spend a few hours with a new friend working on some fun photo techniques. It was a perfect evening with a beautiful blue sky with wispy clouds that reflected nicely in the water. We shot until we could no longer feel our fingers and toes- then we quickly made a mad dash for the nearest coffee shop. We spent some time in Clock Works a cool Salem cafe where we chatted and looked over our photos while we warmed up. I can't believe I have to remind myself from time to time to go out and just take pictures completely for fun- just for me. It was a very relaxing and fun photo shoot!

I'm starting my search for Senior Photo Reps in the Mid-Willamette Valley area, it's a little early, but I want to get all my seniors reps on the books so we can get some great spring pictures! I expect my senior reps to work hard to promote Danae Jones Photography between now and graduation, but you will be rewarded with an awesome photo shoot and the ability to earn credits toward photo products.

I will take two seniors for each of the area schools. (Albany, Lebanon, Jefferson primarily, but will also consider Corvallis and Salem seniors) Not everyone who applies can be accepted so apply early!

Who I'm looking for: I'm looking for motivated students who are energetic, outgoing and who are involved in their school and community. You're going to be talking about your senior session anyways right? So why not earn credit while doing so! Senior reps need to create a buzz among their friends and school about Danae Jones Photography's senior sessions. Please only apply if you are serious about talking to your friends about your great photo session!

How it works: My 2012 senior reps will get a free spring session with your images on a CD ($150 value). You will also be tagged in a set of watermarked photos that will appear on Facebook so you can display them on your page and as your profile picture throughout the year. You will get a set of rep business cards. These cards will feature a photo of you with my contact info on it. You hand these cards out to your friends, neighbors, strangers etc... and for every person who books a senior session with one of your cards you will receive a $20 print/product credit and they will receive a discount on their session.

I realize there has been a serious lack of posts on here, and for that I apologize. I think I've mentioned it before, but I manage a camera store as my 'day job' and just when things slow down photography-wise in the winter, things pick up hard core at the store. So after an incredibly hectic holiday season, Andrew and I (along with my immediate family) took a much needed vacation to Negril, Jamaica. It was nice to completely disconnect from everything. My cell phone stayed off for a week and a half and I even left my lap top at home ( I know, can you believe it?!). There was no way I was leaving my camera at home though, so while I didn't use it every day, I did manage to get some fun photos of super cute kids that I thought I'd share with you.

This is one of my favorite photos of the entire trip- Beautiful Alena! I love the word 'Negril' in the background.

These were the rocks at the place we were staying, we spent hours jumping off them and swimming in the little cove.

Andrew and I spent a lot of time eating and hanging out at little road side stands, so these next few beautiful girls that you see are friends that we made while eating at their parents stands.

Sooo.... Anyone want to get married in Jamaica? You wouldn't have to twist my leg too hard to convince me to come along and take destination wedding photos!

I mentioned in my previous post how fun it was to try some new props and picture ideas with Matt, Liz, Silas and Titus. Those kids were troopers, its always fun to have something interactive for toddlers to do while "posing" for pictures and, as you'll see, throwing leaves proved to be the perfect distraction. Titus kept trying to "feed" leaves to my lens =)

These next two photos make me laugh. The boys look like escaping convicts =)

Great Weekend and a Sneak Peak

This has been a great weekend! Three family sessions in as many days makes for one happy Danae. I love getting to go out and try new things and spend time with cool people!
I spent a few hours this morning rummaging through some antique stores trying to find some props and items that I have been wanting to play during photo sessions. One of my goals was so find some cool looking frames to allow clients to peak through for some fun photos. Turns out cool antique frames are easy to find (Yay!) but most of them cost $50+ (Boo!) so if you have any cool old frames lying around I'd be happy to buy them from you. I did, however, pick up one neat frame. All that to say, I have had this frame vision for a while now, and finally got to try it out today during a family shoot with my brother-in-law and his family. I just sat down to look through the photos and while it will be a day or two before I get the rest of their photos up, I just couldn't wait to put up this photo to show you all. It turned out just like I had pictured in my mind!

I may be biased, but aren't those cute kids?! Look at those mischievous faces!

I can't wait to try out the frame(s) at a wedding! I'm picturing an entire wedding party peering through rad frames. Who else wants to come try the frame with me?!

Jake and Annie showed me this beautiful little park and pond in Salem with wonderful fall colors. It's always fun to shoot in a new location and I had a great time wandering around getting pictures of this neat couple.

Both this session and the Duke session below were shot with my new toy I just got last week; a Nikon D700 full frame camera. It really loves the fall warm tones. Looking forward to using this camera a lot!

I'm going to go ahead and warn you up front that this is going to be a long post.
I tried to narrow it down to fewer pictures, but I just couldn't.
This family is so dang cute, I wanted to post every last one of the photos!
Mitch, Katie and Gibson braved the cold chill of November and met me to do some fun family shots at a local park.
The combination of leaves on the ground and the leaves still in the trees make for some very fun and vibrant photos.

If you look closely at the photo on the left above, you'll notice that Gibson is full projectile sneezing in Mitch's face. Cracks me up every time!

If you hung with me for all those pictures, nice work!

Cory and Bethany had a beautiful, small wedding with their families on the banks of the Alsea river last week. Bethany's family owns a quaint little cabin near the town of Alsea and the couple tied the knot in the yard that they had landscaped just for the event. The cabin was a perfect place for a wedding, very peaceful and calm with the sound of the creek rippling quietly in the background.

The boys and I hiked down to the river to get their group shots and as we were heading back up we found a heart shaped rock, which made a perfect center piece for many photos throughout the day.

Despite being the hottest day of the year, Cody and Ailene had a beautiful wedding on Cody's Aunt and Uncle's working farm outside of Corvallis. Ailene and Cody come from large families that really know how to throw a party! They did an incredible amount of work prior to the wedding to clear out brush and blackberry bushes and lay a great lawn behind a hayfield to achieve their dream location. Ailene and her bridesmaids rode into the wedding on a hay wagon pulled by a tractor.

Winddancer Photography and I got to be apart of another lovely wedding at Sublime Thyme Gardens. Chelsea wore the same beautiful dress that her mother had worn at her wedding. The nice thing about Sublime Thyme Gardens is that although we have a lot of wedding there this summer, there are so many different gardens and nooks for us to shoot in so each couple ends up with unique beautiful photos.

Good thing Sublime Thyme Gardens is such a beautiful place to shoot because I will be photographing a bunch of weddings there this summer with Windancer Photography. Sally and Josh's wedding was our second wedding at this venue in June and we were greeted with stunning bring blue skies that made a great backdrop for some wonderful shots out in the field. Sally had the greatest facial expressions and kept us constantly entertained!

ABC House Benefit Dinner

After a long winter hiatus, it is once again getting into wedding and event season, and I had the pleasure of doing a shoot for the ABC House's Benefit dinner this past Wednesday. ABC House is a wonderful organization out of Albany that provides assistance to victims of child abuse. The event was at Flinn Block Hall in Albany, a great venue with lots of beautiful natural light.

We took advantage of a rare warm, sunny, windless day in Seaside this weekend and took one year old photos of Titus. Seaside has some wonderful places for portrait photos. Swing sets on the beach, water, sand, tall beach grass and drift wood. I would love to go back soon to do some more.

Swan Island Dahlia Fields

As much as I love shooting weddings and seniors sometimes it is necessary to get out and do something different. On Sunday my CoWorker and I took advantage of an afternoon break in weather and drove up to the Swan Island Dahlia Fields in Canby to get some shots before they harvested. There were so many bees pollinating the flowers that you had to shake them off if you wanted to get a flower shot sans bees. The wings of the bees were so fascinating to look at through a macro lens! It was a lot of fun and we got some beautiful shots of the flowers. I tried to narrow it down to just a couple for the blog, but had such a hard time choosing, so here's more than a few...

About a month ago I accepted a position with Winddancer Photography (website in progress) out of Corvallis. It is an amazing opportunity to learn from a true teacher and also to play with some fun equipment =) Here are some photos from an engagement session I shot this evening. The couple requested that we use their land lord's back yard as the location for the shoot. The house was outside Scio and was beautifully landscaped with a great creek running through the back. There were no end to the possibilities at this location with the wonderful lighting we had tonight.
